DIY Reusable Christmas Bead Tinsel
A beautiful, reusable alternative to traditional Christmas tinsel!
Create your own Christmas tree garland using beads and string. It's a simple craft that you can customise to match your Christmas colours and bring out year after year.
What You'll Need
- Beads in your chosen Christmas colours and sizes
- Strong cotton string, nylon cord or fishing line
- Scissors
- A needle (optional, depending on the bead holes)
Instructions
1. Choose your colours. Pick beads that complement your Christmas tree. Traditional red, green and gold, elegant whites and pearls, or a colourful mix all work beautifully.
2. Cut your string. Decide how long you'd like your garland to be and cut a length of string, allowing extra for securing the ends.
3. Secure one end. Tie a firm knot or temporarily secure the end to stop beads slipping off.
4. Thread your beads. Add beads one at a time, alternating colours and sizes to create your own pattern. Continue until you've reached your desired length.
5. Secure the garland. Tie a strong knot at the other end, ensuring the beads cannot slip off.
6. Decorate your tree. Gently drape your finished bead tinsel around the branches, just as you would with traditional tinsel.
7. Pack away and reuse. After Christmas, carefully wind your garland around a piece of cardboard or a spool to prevent tangling.
Handy Tips
- Lightweight beads are best so they don't weigh down your tree branches.
- Make several shorter garlands rather than one extremely long piece for easier decorating and storage.
- Mix different bead finishes for a sparkling effect.
- Store carefully and enjoy your handmade decorations for many Christmases to come!
Safety: Small beads can be a choking hazard. Keep loose beads and finished garlands away from young children and pets. Adult supervision is recommended during crafting.
